Electricity Power Meter

The great value and simple to use PM230 electricity meter monitors and measures the energy / power consumption and running costs of connected electrical appliances.

Just plug electrical appliance(s) into the PM230 meter and it will show you readings of Voltage, frequency, Watt's and kWh. In simple words you can always check how much energy attached device(s) need now, how much it used during the metered period and even how much money it costs you.

How It Works Step By Step

Energy meter arrives

Remove the energy meter from its packaging.

Plug in

Plug the energy meter into a wall socket or extension plug. The green LED light will indicate that the device is working correctly.

Choose electrical appliance

Once you have plugged the energy meter into the socket you will then need to choose the electrical appliance you wish to measure.

You will then be required to plug this into the socket on the electrical energy meter.

View energy readings

Read through the instructions for the various different setting options available to you.

The reading opposite indicates the power output of the fan when it was rotating at setting number one.

Higher energy consumption

As you can see opposite, the power output increased when the desk fan was rotating at setting number two.

This handy little gadget which goes between the wall socket and the appliance you want to monitor, shows various types of information on a digital LCD screen: The time, the voltage, the number of watts drawn at any instant, the total number of watts used, and the cost. I found out the cost of a unit of electricity from my supplier, and entered it into the gadget. This meant I was able to find out that a quick wash on my machine costs five pence, as does the 'normal' setting on my bread-maker! It also costs 5p to defrost and heat two portions of soup. The halogen light I use for reading is VERY EXPENSIVE to run. Next I am going to find out how much my daughter spends on drying her clothes! ! Drawbacks: Unfortunately when in use, the cable of the appliance hangs down in front of the LCD screen, so it is hard to read the real-time results. However you can see the total afterwards. There is also a problem with putting it into sockets on skirting boards: some are too low for it to fit. Both these problems would be overcome if the LCD display part of the monitor was put at the top of the gadget, rather than at the bottom where it is now.
